The Gesu Difference

Gesu understands that soft skills, such as determination and confidence, are teachable. We deliberately weave these skills into our curriculum for Pre-K - 8th grade. This initiative, the MAGIS of Gesu, covers five essential skills:

Motivation, Awareness, Grit, Independence, and Social Competence.

Gesu offers numerous partnerships and special programming to enhance students’ education inside and outside of the classroom. We provide cultural, civic engagement, and learning experiences with Philadelphia’s museums and arts institutions, and partner with local universities and organizations. Click to see some of our affiliates. In any given trimester, our special programs range from robotics to pottery and yoga.

Gesu’s approach to holistic learning is inclusive of students’ mental and physical health. Our school culture and environment promote dignity and respect for all and for the self. Gesu students have the opportunity to grow spiritually, socially, and emotionally, whatever their faith background. At Gesu, we believe that each student is a gift from God who deserves nurturing, love, and guidance to develop their full potential. While Catholic beliefs and traditions are taught as part of the religious curriculum, we place emphasis on helping students develop strong character and solid morals. We teach respect for all people and all faiths, exposing students to the world’s major religions. We raise students’ awareness of social justice issues.

The Gesu Graduate Support Program (GSP) provides resources and services for current Gesu students, alumni, parents, and guardians. In addition to guiding current families through the high school fit and admissions process, the GSP supports alumni after they move on to high school, college, or the workforce.
