But more than that...they respect the teacher and
each other. This alone is a remarkable accomplishment.
But I found that there’s so much more to the Gesu story.”
—Reflections of a first-time visitor to Gesu School

In the middle of one of the most hard-pressed neighborhoods of Philadelphia, Gesu School is a work of faith in action.
It’s a collaboration of people of all faiths who recognize the profound impact of Gesu on the lives of the young people that it serves.

The mission and the educational approach are rooted in the Catholic tradition of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit) fathers and the Immaculate Heart of Mary sisters who have a long association with Gesu. But this approach has also been embraced by the school’s growing community of donors, mentors, volunteers and other supporters. They are Baptists, Jews, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, Quakers and many other faith traditions who join hands with their Catholic friends and colleagues to make Gesu succeed.

This website is the story of how a struggling inner-city parochial school became a national model for inner-city education. And how so many deserving youngsters find self-respect and life direction through their Gesu School experience. And not only are the children transformed by Gesu, but so are those who allow their hearts to be touched by it.
