Overview

Simply put, contributions to Gesu School from individuals, corporations and foundations perform miracles.

  • In a neighborhood where approximately half of the students fail to graduate from high school on time, over 90% of Gesu graduates complete 12th grade in four years.

  • In a school where most students enter two years behind grade level, 100% of Gesu's 2008 eighth grade graduating class enrolled in outstanding independent, parochial, charter, vocational or magnet schools, such as the Academy of Notre Dame, Saint Joseph's Prep, Springside School and Roman Catholic.

  • An atmosphere of joy, respect, order and enthusiasm for learning permeates this school! Everyone who walks through our doors feels it immediately.

Programs of Giving

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund is every nonprofit organization's lifeblood. At Gesu, we must raise more than two million unrestricted dollars every year to provide a quality education to 460 Gesu students. Tuition payments from students cover only 13% of Gesu's annual operating budget.

Generous friends who make annual contributions from $5 to $50,000 quite literally help keep Gesu's doors open and the school operating. We are grateful for each and every gift.

For more information on the Annual Fund call Suzette Baird or Mike Gondos in the Development Office at (215) 763-9077 or send them an email.

Sponsor A Child

If you want to see how much of a difference your donation makes, participate in the Sponsor A Child program. Contribute the full annual cost of educating one Gesu child ($6,000 for the '09-'10 school year) to support a deserving student at Gesu. If you wish, you may attend biannual events to get to know the child you sponsor; Gesu also will keep you updated on the child's progress. Gifts to the Sponsor A Child program are Annual Fund gifts.

For more information on the Sponsor A Child program, call Suzette Baird or Mike Gondos in the Development Office at (215) 763-9077 or send them an email.

Corporate Giving
The Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC)

Corporations can make a huge difference in the lives of Gesu children while receiving tax credits for their contribution through the Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.

A business can contribute up to $200,000 in scholarship aid to the Gesu Scholarship Fund and receive a tax credit of up to 90%. For a contribution to the new EITC Pre-K Program, there is a 100% tax credit for the first $10,000 and 90% thereafter up to a maximum of $100,000.

The contribution may be deducted for federal tax purposes, further reducing or in some cases completely eliminating the cost of the contribution.

Businesses are eligible if they pay one or more of the following Pennsylvania taxes: corporate net income tax, capital stock and franchise tax, bank and trust company shares tax, title insurance company shares tax, insurance premiums tax, or mutual thrift institution tax.

For more information on corporate giving and the EITC program, call Suzette Baird or Mike Gondos in the Development Office at (215) 763-9077 or send them an email.

Leadership Giving: The Toussaint Society

The Pierre Toussaint Society recognizes individuals who make an unrestricted annual gift of $50,000 and above. Members are recognized in Gesu's annual report.

The society's namesake, Pierre Toussaint, is a fitting model for all who are connected with Gesu. Touissant, a Haitian slave, moved to New York City with his master in the 1700s. Despite his own hardships, he began helping free many other slaves, choosing even to free others before himself. He dedicated his life to helping the less fortunate, giving everything he and his wife Juliette had to poor and orphaned children, opening a school to teach black children a trade, and providing medical care for victims of the plague. Toussaint's life is an example to generous individuals who care deeply about providing opportunities for the poor and disenfranchised.

To make a Toussaint Society level gift call Suzette Baird or Mike Gondos in the Development Office at (215) 763-9077 or send them an email.
